Art in Heat

June 30 to July 30, 2007

Ed Bisese

Ed can swim a mile.

Ed Bisese paints in the spider filled basement studio where he lives in College Park with his wife, daughter, and two terriers. The cool, dark, and quiet basement is a perfect environment in which to spin out evidence of a personal world of equal parts wonder and paranoia. Bisese has Bachelor of Landscape Architecture and Master of Fine Art degrees. He is known for large-scale painted portraits, oversized heads, and walk-in sculpture made of everyday materials.

Bisese takes advantage of an artist's prerogative to work without fear of prejudice. His work is a refuge. He understands no matter how seriously an artist takes his work, it can (and will) be ridiculous to the next person. The artist makes a point of enjoying the creative process, feeling that the sense of freedom it allows is the purpose of art.
